RUSK – A business that owners Cassie and James Adair say is Cherokee County’s only bookstore to open in downtown Rusk.
Small Town Books opened on November 1 in Main and Fifth Streets, and husband and wife owners have long dreamed of opening a bookstore.
“I love books and have a passion for reading. Books are for everyone, all ages and all interests, ”said Cassie Adair.
She said the couple have been thinking more and more about opening a bookstore in recent years. She said it’s something her husband can help before work, and that she can run the store while home-schooling the couple’s boys.
Small Town Books sells new and used books as well as home schooling programs, educational games and toys, teacher supplies, and Christian novelty items. The store will repurchase certain items, such as homeschool supplies and novels, and offers a refreshment bar.
Adair said the store already has plans for events. On November 27, she said the store would host a book signing event with local author John Alexander. On December 18, he’s planning an event with Santa Claus and a hot chocolate.
The store has a large showcase where Adair plans to display works by local artists. Adair said she and her husband hope to make the store a place for the community.
“We hope the bookstore will bring imagination and adventure for all ages and influence the love of reading and literacy in the community,” she said.
The veteran-owned company offers military discounts, Adair noted.
Small Town Books is located at 152 South Main. The boutique is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The store is closed on Sunday and Monday.
