The Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd), offered by 342 self-funded colleges across Haryana, received a dismal reception as more than 86 percent of seats remained vacant after the first council. Out of a total of 18,550 seats, only 2,570 were filled. The remaining 15,980 found no takers.

About 4,000 students had applied for admission to the course, sources said. The State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is now considering conducting a second council to give aspirants another chance, the sources said.

Satish Khola, president of the Association of Self-Funding Private Colleges of Haryana, said candidates from Haryana did not want to take the course because no recruitment of primary teachers was carried out during the years. last eight years. Even the government has made it clear that there are no vacant posts for primary teachers in public schools in the state, he said.

“There is a 15% quota for applicants from other states. It should be revised as soon as possible. The first council ended on November 6, but no notification regarding the second council has yet been released. The case is delaying admissions, “Khola said.

Rishi Goyal, director of SCERT, said applicants were not interested in the degree course because they knew it would not be useful in accordance with the NEP, which emphasized a four-year integrated teacher training program. .
