Del Piero and De Rossi get top marks in training course

Several former Serie A stars got their coach badges today, with Alessandro Del Piero and Daniele De Rossi receiving top marks.

Former players started the UEFA A license course in December.

The UEFA A license course – which allows training up to Serie C, Italy’s third division – was held online due to the pandemic and is reserved for professionals with long experience in the game.

“After completing the 210 training hours of the educational program, the students took the final exams of the course at Coverciano last Thursday,” the official statement from the FIGC said.

“In view of the votes obtained, the best on the course were Daniele De Rossi and Alessandro del Piero. Also worth noting is Ignazio Abate’s final test.

De Rossi was part of Roberto Mancini’s Italian side at Euro last summer, but left his post as he is ready to start his coaching career.

Del Piero, winner of the 2006 Italian World Cup, never worked as a coach after his playing career ended.

Here is the full list of former players who earned their coach badges:

Ignazio Abate, Gianluca Curci, Alessandro Del Piero, Daniele De Rossi, Daniele Gastaldello, Massimo Maccarone, Alessandro Matri, Riccardo Montolivo, Marcelo Otero, Giampaolo Pazzini, David Pizarro, Stefano Torrisi and Christian Vieri.
