College of Aviation Credit Course Offered to Teens in Atlantic City

MAYS LANDING, NJ — Ten Atlantic City teenagers will learn about careers in aviation and drones while earning college credits thanks to a new partnership between Atlantic Cape Community College and the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City.

The partnership marks the first time that Atlantic Cape will hold college courses credited to the Boys and Girls Club.

“We are thrilled to continue our valued relationship with the Boys & Girls Club by offering a class at the Teen Center. Students will not only have the experience of writing a resume or interviewing for a job, they will be introduced to potential careers in the growing field of aviation,” said the president. of Atlantic Cape, Dr. Barbara Gaba, in a statement. “The course will expose students to a career with significant earning potential, furthering our mission to provide Atlantic County residents with affordable, high-quality academic opportunities.”

Introductory Career Development classes began Sept. 20 at the Boys and Girls Club’s Teen Center, but students will take educational trips to the Mays Landing campus in Atlantic Cape, Atlantic City International Airport, and the New Jersey Air National Guard’s 177th Fighter Wing. in Egg Harbor Township, according to the school.

Professors Jessica Reynolds and Tim Cwik will teach students about different career paths in aviation, as well as how to write a resume and an interview.

Stephanie Koch, general manager of the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City, said this is the second year the club has offered college-credit tuition to its teenagers.

“We know that aviation is a booming industry in our region and our goal is to develop the
workforce pipeline within our next generation. In addition to the academic side of this effort, teens will have the opportunity to take college courses at Atlantic Cape Community College, giving them exposure to higher education, on a college campus. Graduates will graduate with our university’s 3 C’s: credits, college confidence, and career exposure! said Koch.
