CAA votes for new computer information technology course – The Daily Eastern News

The Academic Affairs Council approved a new Computer Science and Information Technology course to begin in the Fall 2022 semester at Thursday’s meeting.

During the meeting, item 21-106 proposed a new course for the computer and information technology department, CIT-4883, which was unanimously approved by the CAA.

Toqeer Israr, associate professor and coordinator of computer science and information technology, spoke to CAA about the new course and what the class would include in the proposal.

“This course basically talks about virtualization technologies,” Israr said. “We’re talking about how to teach students how to set up a virtual system.”

Israr also explained why this course is necessary for students and the benefits if students have this course available to them.

“It’s absolutely something my students will need when they graduate; they could potentially work in this area,” Israr said.

The CAA also unanimously approved Section 21-102 with a change to the journalism honors program.

The change made is the withdrawal of the course JOU-2091G Journalism and democracy, specialization as a specialized course required in the specialized journalism department.

Instead, the plan is for journalism to honor students to focus on independent study rather than taking a required course.

This change will be in effect for the Fall 2022 semester.

The CAA unanimously approved a revision to the changes made to the written wording of senior seminars in the catalog on senior seminars at point 21-105.

The two changes are to change the name from “General Education Seminary” to simply Senior Seminary, as there are many versions of General Education Seminary below it from when it was last named.

There will also be a change to add the fact that senior seminars are writing intensive.

These changes will be in effect for the Fall 2022 semester.

CAA meets every Thursday at 2 p.m. each week, classes are in session either virtually via Zoom or in the Library Booth in the Witters Conference Room.

Last week’s meeting and this week’s meeting were virtual meetings on Zoom.
